New Photos From The Production Of The Percy Jackson Series Reveal Camp Half-Blood Armor And Costumes
When Disney+ announced in May 2020 that there would be a live-action Percy Jackson (based on Rick Riordan’s book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians) series in the works, there was a mixed reaction from the fans. Many felt apprehensive since the movies, while good (well, arguably sometimes) fantasy stories, were absolutely nothing like the books and were very disappointing for fans.
But many were hopeful because Disney wasn’t putting out another movie, but instead, releasing a series based on the first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, which would hopefully mean that it would be closer to the book and include more details, etc. The other exciting thing that was announced was that Rick Riordan, the author of the series, would be directly involved as an executive producer and writer. That eased a lot of fans’ apprehensions.

Rick has been giving small updates on his blog about the casting and little hints about being on set, but as per usual early stages of production, not much has leaked out to the fans. In early June, Rick gave a live Instagram update about filming Camp Half-Blood scenes, and some pictures of scenery were posted on Twitter. But so far, other than casting announcements, there have been no leaks of any of the characters. Until recently when a photo of two Camp Half-Blood kids in armor was posted on Twitter.
@hotyturner posted a photo of two cast extras in Vancouver. They are wearing light bronze Greek-style armor and seem to also be wearing the iconic orange Camp Half-Blood T-Shirt although we cannot see any logos or writing on the shirts. The caption on the tweet says that they are filming the Capture the Flag sequence.
In Capture the Flag in the first book, it is Percy Jackson’s first camp activity where the campers get to fight each other and monsters. This particular Capture the Flag ends with Percy being claimed by his godly father, Poseidon. It is a very iconic moment from the first book. With the inclusion of the orange shirts, which were not in the film adaptions, it already seems like this series is trying to be more faithful to the source material.
We don’t know exactly when the Disney+ series will be released although Rick has speculated it to be early 2024. The series started filming on June 2, 2022, in Vancouver.
