A New Trailer For 'Do Revenge' Highlights The World Of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's Newest Work
In a world where films are increasingly being released on streaming services, Netflix’s “Do Revenge” released an official trailer detailing the lives of two high school-aged students. According to a tweet by The Hollywood Reporter, the Netflix film “offers a glimpse into the bubblegum, sugarcoated world of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s latest endeavor”. Robinson, known for writing Thor: Love and Thunder, Unpregnant, and Something Great is further expanding her directorial and writing prowess by creating a stark contrast between the visuals of the film and the central plot.
In the official trailer, viewers see two different teenage girls whose lives and reputations were dragged by those they once trusted. One of the teenage girls, Camila Mendes’s Drea, plans revenge on a former boyfriend in response to exposing private photos whereas Maya Hawke’s Eleanor seeks to destroy the life of her ex who started a rumor about Eleanor assaulting her. Reminiscent of female-centered revenge plots such as Heathers and Promising Young Woman, Robinson’s film awaits an eager audience come September 16.

The film promises to be a “subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.” While having teenage girls central to a film plot is nothing ground-breaking, the subject of the film is one having a resurgence in popularity. Right away, the bubblegum aesthetic and cheery characters evoke a sense of nostalgia as the beginning of the trailer parallels the imagery seen in Promising Young Woman and Heathers. However, there is a more sinister energy behind the happy façade. YouTube commenters discussing the trailer make note of how “the color Palette, the soundtrack, and the filter of [“Do Revenge”] is so cute but at the same time, the story is so dark” as it deals with real-world issues—sexism, misogyny, and the imbalance of responsibility one faces amid a scandal.
Given the reception of the trailer, it’s evident that Camila and Maya are both talented and have amazing chemistry together. In addition, there is more star power to be had in the up incoming Netflix film. According to msn.com, “Alongside its two main stars, Do Revenge has tapped Sophie Turner, Alisha Boe, and Talia Ryder for the cast.” With talented actors and a dark, yet campy tone, the film “Do Revenge” could have the making of being more than just a teen movie. Whether someone dies, in the end, is yet to be seen.
