How to Train Your Dragon’s live-action adaptation is on track as far as production is concerned. Starring Mason Thames as the Viking youth Hiccup, the film is looking to adapt the first DreamWorks animated film about a boy who’s trained to fight dragons but ends up befriending one. Empire has shared with viewers an exclusive look at the film, showing the scene where Hiccup fights Toothless, only to save him when he's unable to. Thames is decked out in Viking armor while spectators watch from the stands. It appears there will be a twist where Hiccup will initially try and tame another dragon, only for Toothless to be captured during the trial.

How to Train Your Dragon was loosely based on a book series of the same name by Cressida Cowell. DreamWorks Animation produced three films from 2010 to 2019, in total grossing about $1.63 billion and earning four Oscar nominations. Given the mixed track record of live-action adaptations of animated movies in the past, it remains to be seen how good How to Train Your Dragon will be. However, it will still be interesting to see everything play out. Hopefully, it doesn’t end up just being an inferior rehash of the original.
