A new three-minute clip from the upcoming Sonic Prime animated series was just released by Netflix on their Netflix After-School YouTube channel. In this clip, Sonic is seen being attacked by an alternate version of Miles “Tails” Prower, who appears to have given himself mechanical tails. The two are fighting on top of a train, and while attacking Sonic, he falls off the train car, hanging on only by one of his mechanical tails. Sonic leaps down to save him and dashes to safety with Tails in tow. Tails questions why Sonic saved him, and the hedgehog responds by telling the fox that they’re friends, which this alternate Tails does not believe.

Sonic then recounts to Tails the story of how they met, featuring a 16-bit styled flashback that is similar to the one featured in Sonic Origins. However, whereas in Sonic’s story, Sonic saves Tails from the bullies that were mocking him for his two tails, Tails runs away from them and uses this as the inspiration to build his seven mechanical tails, isolating himself from everyone. Despite this, the fox seems interested in hearing about this other version of himself, causing the two to discuss the differences between their universes.

The clip focuses on the friendship between Sonic and Tails, and it appears that this friendship will be a focus of this series. Sonic Prime speeds onto Netflix on December 15th, but players of the Roblox game Sonic Speed Simulator can get an early preview of the show’s first episode on December 10th.
