Netflix Becomes The New Home Of 'Star Trek: Prodigy', With A Second Season In The Works
Streaming services are no stranger to dropping animated shows before they can be greenlit for a new season, such as Tuca & Bertie or Inside Job. With a bit of luck, as well as some keen eyes from rival services, they can occasionally be saved from the scrap heap. Star Trek: Prodigy can now celebrate its recent rescue, as Netflix has picked up and renewed the animated series four months after being dropped by Paramount+.
Even after a series of cost-cutting maneuvers from Star Trek: Prodigy's original home, many fans remained hopeful the show could be saved from permanent purgatory. The #SaveStarTrekProdigy campaign soon came to light, which involved using a plane to fly a banner over various Hollywood studios, in hopes that someone would take the hint. It seems as if Netflix was the first to seize the opportunity.

Showrunners and co-creators Kevin and Dan Hagerman sent out an official announcement to fans, showing their gratitude:
“Thank you to our incredible ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”
Since season two was already in development before Paramount+ dropped the series, fans can expect the finished season on Netflix, as well as the entirety of season one, sometime at the end of this year, or as late as early 2024. Here's hoping Star Trek: Prodigy lives long and prospers for even more seasons!
