More Animated 'Cyberpunk 2077' Projects Are In Planning At CD Projekt Red

Edgerunner fans may get to return to Night City sooner than anticipated, as CD Projekt revealed that they are planning more animated projects set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
The news came during a recent Earnings Call, where Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked if there were plans for a second season of the award-winning anime ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.’
While CDPR has reaffirmed that Edgerunners will not return for a second season, Nowakowski did confirm that more animated projects set in the Cyberpunk world were being planned.
"We are definitely planning to do more in terms of animation with Cyberpunk so I hope that's enough as an answer," Nowakowski said. "So expect to see more for sure, but that's as far as I can go right now."

CD Projekt first dipped its toes into animation with the miniseries ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,’ which saw the Polish game studio collaborating with anime Studio TRIGGER (Kill-La-Kill). Critics and fans praised the series, released on Netflix in September 2022, for its over-the-top action, iconic characters, and shockingly melancholy story that left few viewers dry-eyed by its ending. The anime ended up being a much-needed bounce back for the videogame Cyberpunk 2077, bringing old fans back to the game after its troubled launch in 2020, and introducing new fans to Night City, with over a million players in the game each day following the anime release. CDPR would also add items from the anime such as David’s jacket and some new details in the Night City Columbarium, a location in the game.
With this news, the world of Cyberpunk is set for a massive expansion in the coming years, with books and comics being released, a live-action project in the works, and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel (currently titled Project: Orion) set to enter development very soon. Perhaps, if we’re lucky, these animated projects could include appearances from the Edgerunners crew, or other iconic characters from this growing world.
