Microsoft Completes Acquisition Of Activision Blizzard
Back in 2022, Microsoft made a bid to purchase Activision Blizzard, the studio behind Call of Duty, World Of Warcraft, and Diablo. After some major hurdles were crossed, the ink has finally dried and the announcement came through from multiple sources, with final confirmation from Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotcik himself, that we are ready for a new era in gaming.
At the time of the original purchase, some companies and competition watchdogs expressed concern that this was Microsoft trying to gain a monopoly of the gaming market. One issue centered around the thinking that Microsoft wanted to corner that cloud gaming market and essentially freeze out the competition but Microsoft said it would give that away to Ubisoft. This will hopefully make things still a little accessible to the other studios. So, with that squared away, Microsoft can officially take over Activision Blizzard.
And while timelines are a little fuzzy, in a statement from Kotcik to his team, he has agreed to stay on as CEO at least until the end of the year to help transition the new team in and give some stability to the brand until Microsoft inevitably installs their own CEO. So with more great titles now available from the studios, RIP to your Xbox internal drive and you better buy stock in external hard drive companies because things are gonna get nuts.
