With the 2021 release of Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelations, the He-Man characters rose through the ranks of pop culture. Now, a new cast is preparing to breathe more life into the iconic characters in Kevin Smith’s upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revolution. Netflix recently announced the casting of Melissa Benoist, best known for the title role in Supergirl, as the heroine Teela, who was previously voiced by Sarah Michelle Geller in the 2021 series. Benoist was thrilled with the role, “I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine. I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”

Benoist wasn’t the only one excited about her role. Mattel Television Senior Vice President and General Manager Fred Soulie commented on the casting, “On the heels of our 40th anniversary, He-Man is more prevalent in pop culture than ever before, which is why we're especially excited to bring the force that is Melissa Benoist into the fold. Melissa already exemplifies every aspect of Teela's formidable personality, and we know that she will continue to showcase the same heart as she did in Supergirl, providing audiences with a new iteration of a classic character synonymous with strength and heroism.”

Revolution will take the characters in a new direction as the series focuses on the rivalry between magic and technology. The synopsis reads, “Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It's technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.” Other actors to join the fold are Benoist’s husband Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and William Shatner in an unknown role. Revolution will premiere on Netflix in 2024.
