Marvel Updates Release Dates Of Disney+ Shows

The public might have to wait a bit to see what Disney promised for the MCU and some of their other IPs. The company is hitting the breaks on several Marvel projects due to premiere in the upcoming months.

This comes as a direct result of the strikes that paralyzed Hollywood in general, putting actors, writers, producers, and directors together in picket lines to protest the working conditions they have been through. These projects - most of them Disney+ series - were set to be released later this year but were pushed back to 2024. Here is the list of shows affected according to Variety

What if..? season 2, an animated series about other possible timelines - like Agent Carter receiving the super soldier serum - was pushed back to December 25,  right on time to watch it with the family. The show was already supposed to be available for a few months but got pushed to the end of the year.

Ironheart will focus on Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne), a talented young woman with incredible engineering skills who was able to design a suit of armor similar to Iron Man’s. This series was taken off Marvel’s schedule altogether, and it is probably going to be released closer to the movie Armor Wars.

This strategy, according to a source who goes by the username of “CanWeGetSomeToast” on X, is to put similar projects next to each other for them to complement one another. Ironheart has already wrapped filming, but the ongoing strikes have slowed down the post-production.

Another one that the public was looking forward to watching was X-Men ‘97, an update on the X-Men series that was a hit with the audience during the 1990s. Even if the show is still available to be streamed on Disney+, a more modern look to it would certainly please younger audiences that were not around back then. This would also help introduce the X-Men once again, thus serving as a bridge for them to appear - hopefully - in live action in the next few years. This was pushed back to early 2024 instead of this year.

Spin-offs seem to be the norm for Disney lately, so there are a couple more to keep an eye on: Agatha (formerly known as Agatha: Coven of Chaos), the witch who manipulated Wanda during the events of Wandavision, comes back to Disney+ on the second half of 2024; Echo, starring Alaqua Cox, focuses on a native-American superhero that was previously introduced as part of 2021’s Hawkeye series that featured Jeremy Renner as the character.
