Marvel Comics first published a Star Wars piece in 1977, titled Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars. The company published several comics throughout the late 70s through the 80s until the rights were acquired by Dark Horse Comics in 1991. Eventually, Marvel and Lucasfilm were both acquired by the Walt Disney Company. In 2015, the rights to Star Wars comic books were returned to Marvel Comics; the first canon series they released was in January of the same year, a reboot of the original series titled Star Wars. Initially, it was written by Jason Aaron, with art by John Cassaday.
