The Destiny franchise is expanding beyond consoles and PCs with a brand-new game. Announced October 14th, Destiny: Rising will be a mobile game connected to the Destiny universe and has been created through a partnership between the Chinese company NetEase Games and Bungie.

Set in an alternative timeline to the main Destiny universe, and in the past of this alternative universe, Destiny: Rising will have newly risen Guardians exploring a very different Earth to the one existing franchise players will be familiar with. Locations confirmed for the game include what seems to be a sort of hub called Haven, as well as the ice-coated ruins of an ancient human city called Jiangshi and the hostile, arid environment of the Red Sea Rift. Destiny’s four traditional enemy factions also look to be appearing, the Fallen, Hive, Cabal, and Vex, divided up between the two explorable zones mentioned previously.

The game’s content looks to feature a story campaign alongside other staples of the Destiny franchise, like cooperative-focused Strikes, as well as a wealth of familiar weapons. However, the game also has its additions to the armories of Guardian players, including the new weapon type of Crossbows and a new level of item above the previous cap, Exotic, with the Mythic tier. Another notable difference is how players will not be creating their own character, instead picking from a roster of heroes with specific abilities and appearances.

Destiny: Rising is currently set to have a closed alpha test beginning November 1st, with registration already open. There is no release date set for the game.
