Marvel and Niantic Team Up To Make New AR Video Game: World of Heroes At D23

Marvel has announced that they’re working on a new Mobile game with Niantic, the studio behind the smash hit sensation Pokemon Go. Called ‘World of Heroes’, this new Marvel mobile-based video game will be an augmented reality adventure much like Pokemon Go.
In World of Heroes, players will use geolocation and augmented reality data from their mobile phones to play as superheroes in the real world. Confirmed details thus far are that people can assume their own superhero identity and team up with some of their Marvel character favorites, possibly even The Avengers, to stop a grand diabolical threat.

The trailer also showcases some elements of social gameplay with other people, and thus possible co-op and PVP elements, along with some super-powered abilities in the game.
It also showcases several superpowers in the game, such as Thor’s Mjolnir, Cyclops’ laser vision, and Doctor Strange’s sorcery magic. World of Heroes will arrive in 2023. Players can pre-register now at marvelworldofheroes.com.
Given the massive success that is Pokemon Go, Niantic’s branch into other IPs using their augmented reality-styled game development makes sense. The company has struggled to maintain its previous levels of success with PoGo, though have developed games such as Harry Potter, Pikmin, and Transformers, along with their original game, ingress. All of which utilize their AR system.
Niantic is also planning to announce its own IP Peridot, a game that allows players to breed and raise fictional creatures, and also have an NBA All-World game planned, where folks can collect NBA players and boost their skills and challenge others in digital gyms. Both of those games are set to release later this year.
