Make It So: Paramount+ Orders a Teen Centric, Diverse 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Series
Paramount+ announced a new Star Trek series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The show will be geared towards young adults and looks like it will be more of a soap opera than prior Treks have been.
The announcement said, “Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.” The statement also advertised the show’s diversity, those accepted to the academy will live and study side-by-side with the most diverse population of students ever admitted.”

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be helmed by co-showrunners Noga Landau and Alex Kurtzman. There will be space to fill on the streaming network since the current season is the last for Star Trek: Picard, and the upcoming season of Star Trek: Discovery will be its final season.
Even though the academy has always been an important part of Trek lore, this will be the first Star Trek show to focus on Starfleet Academy. Besides being talked about by officers throughout Starfleet, going to the academy was a major goal for the crew of Star Trek: Prodigy and Nog from Deep Space Nine. The new show will start production in 2024.
