Latest Monsterverse Movie Doing Numbers After Switching To Netflix
During its theatrical run, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) did numbers at the box office, topping the charts during its release weekend, ranking in best Easter weekend releases, and raking in more than $571.75 million overall. It also created a new record as the highest-grossing Godzilla film at this time. The New Empire continues to make waves; the film is now available to stream on Netflix, and it quickly rose on the platform’s chart for most-viewed movies of the week in the United States, coming in at number three!
The New Empire is a direct sequel to the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong. Godzilla remained on the surface to keep the peace between Titans and humans, while Kong went to the Hollow Earth, eventually finding a tribe of his kind. The two team up, joined by Mothra, to defeat the threat posed by the Skar King, the leader of the tribe. The film was directed by Adam Wingard. Its cast includes Rebecca Hall, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, Dan Stevens, Brian Tyree Henry, and Fala Chen, among many others.
