In yet another blow for the people wanting to play more Knights of the Old Republic, the Restored Content Mod for the switch version of Kotor 2 has been cancelled.

When the second installment of the beloved Knights of the Old Republic series was released on the Nintendo Switch, it was also announced that the developers were also working on adding the Restored Content Mod to the Switch Port. The second KOTOR game, which came out in 2004, was infamously unfinished, as the developers were forced to rush the game to meet a Christmas deadline to increase sales.

Then we were given what we could have had from the start when the fans created the Restored Content Mod, which put a large portion of the cut material back in the game, improving it significantly. Once you play with that mod, you don’t play the vanilla game again. So in that spirit, the developers porting the game to Switch planned on adding the RCM to the Switch, a prospect that was repeatedly pushed back.

Now it’s officially not to be.

The official Twitter account for the development company, Aspyr, had this to say:

“Sadly, today we are announcing that the Restoration Content DLC for the Nintendo Switch version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords will not be moving forward for release. We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support by providing a complimentary video game key to players that purchased Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords on Nintendo Switch before this announcement.”

In an attempt to make it up to fans, the company has made certain other Star Wars games free on the Switch, including but not limited to the two KOTOR games, Jedi Academy, Forced Unleashed, and Jedi Outcast. If you own all of the offered games already… too bad, I guess.

This is just another example of how tumultuous the development of KOTOR games can be. The PS5 remake of the first game was pushed back indefinitely when the development team was switched, KOTOR 2 was unfinished, KOTOR 3 was cancelled, and now this. Hopefully we’ll get something great when the remake of the original game comes out.
