Kingdoms fall, stories end, but legacies live on. On November 10th we suffered the loss of a part of our childhoods when we heard Kevin Conroy had passed. Kevin’s work was part of our lives in one way or another; whether we watched TV shows, the movies, or played games, his portrayal of Batman was there for us.

On one occasion, he addressed a fan whose grandmother recently passed, and he shared his thoughts regarding death and what is important to remember about it.

First, he shared he was there when both his parents passed but he emphasizes that “the thing to remember is their spirit lives on, the body is just a vessel”. “The people we love are always with us”, he continues, remembering his fan that even if their body is no longer alive, their legacy is still alive within us.

He ends his video with the classic “I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman!” chant and continues to say, “is not who you are underneath, it’s what you do that defins you”. Moments like this help us remember what a lovely person Kevin Conroy was.

Listening to these words from the voice of Batman himself helps to understand how he views the world. Now that he is gone, all that is left is the memories he created for us, and we must keep moving forward, keeping him, and all who have passed, in our hearts and minds.
