When it comes to verifying the validity of a rumor about DC, look no further than James Gunn himself. Gunn wastes no time in shooting down false reports that pop up around Twitter, often directly answering questions from fans. When yet another Superman Legacy rumor popped up, he was quick to dismiss it.

On Friday, Home of DCU tweeted, “According to Grace Randolph, there was a casting call sent out for Superman and Lois with the age range of 20-30 and the movie will film in 2024. James Gunn is listed as a director on the casting call.”

This prompted a user to tweet at James Gunn, asking if it was true. Gunn gave a brief and blunt response:

“No. A casting director hasn’t even been hired.”

Gunn and Randolph have a history of back-and-forth tweets. Randolph has taken shots at Gunn, recently, by telling him to “get a better writer’s room” after Tom King “spilled the beans” by confirming James Gunn would direct Superman Legacy. In the past, Gunn has criticized and corrected the insider on her information surrounding his projects. He went as far as to say, “The Earth revolves around the sun, mothers love their children, and Grace Randolph will spout [expletive].” The two did share a moment of kindness over the holidays, though, after Randolph shared her admiration for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Rumors and leaks are bound to run rampant anytime among a dedicated fanbase of a film or a show. It is easy to latch on to rumors as factual when coming from insiders who have gotten things right in the past. But if those rumors are about DC, James Gunn will be there to set things straight.
