James Gunn Believes That Several Actors From 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Will Follow Him To Work At DC

James Gunn relaxing with some of the main cast members of 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'

As we march toward the May release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the end of the story for its current team of Guardians, director James Gunn continues to wear two hats every day. He has his duties for that film while now two months into being the co-CEO of DC Studios with, at the very least, a Superman movie script and a written but unannounced TV show in development. And just because he approaches putting one hat away doesn’t mean he won’t take the rest of the outfit with him.

Speaking with Empire, Gunn hopes that he’ll get to work with the Guardians cast members again, saying “This cast are like my family…I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.” It’s too soon to know or even speculate whether the majors like Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff and Dave Bautista will make the jump, however. Gunn has dropped hints for Klementieff, while Bautista has campaigned for Bane.

Despite the air of uncertainty, a closer look shows the process has already started. Gunn’s brother Sean has done the performance capture for Rocket and plays Kraglin in the MCU, and has played Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad. Sylvester Stallone played Stakar Ogord/Starhawk in the latter Guardians film and King Shark in The Suicide Squad. Michael Rooker was Yondu and Savant respectively, while Steve Agee was Gef and John Economos. Chukwudi Iwuji manages to go the other way, playing Clemson Murn in Peacemaker and the High Evolutionary in Vol. 3.

As for what Gunn calls his part-time job, he’s in the early stages of planning a fresh batch of DC Studios movies, a few of which are set to be announced in the upcoming weeks. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5, 2023.
