As history goes on, the meaning of “highest-grossing” film is always changing. This week we learned that “Avatar: The Way of Water” made $1.928 billion globally, overtaking the former sixth-highest-grossing film of all time, “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, which grossed $1.91 billion.

There are five other films that James Cameron’s sequel could still beat out, but as the numbers keep coming in over the next few weeks, we’ll have to see what happens. Until then, this film has achieved a milestone that very few films have, and will likely continue to add notches to its belt as it continues to gross at the box office.
