Jack Black Thinks Pedro Pascal Should Play Wario In A 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Sequel
Warning: Slight spoilers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie
With the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, stars are already dream casting the sequel. Jack Black, the voice of Bowser, thinks Wario should be the big bad of the next film, explaining that Bowser may not return in the sequel. The actor said, “It’s not a given that Bowser will return. You know, I did a few Kung Fu Panda movies, and it was a different villain every movie.
Even if Bowser comes back for the sequel, he may have a much different role. Black further explained, “You know, what if there is a more powerful villain, more evil villain? Then I [Bowser] may need to be turned to help Mario and the rest to defend our universe against some other unseen force of evil. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Wario. Pedro Pascal is Wario.”

If Jack’s dream movie comes true, it wouldn’t be the first time Mario and Bowser set aside their differences to fight bigger threats. The Superstar Saga, the Paper Mario series, and Super Mario RPG all involved the Koopa trading in his villainy for a more heroic role. Pedro Pascal has been busy taking down space pirates in The Mandalorian and fighting off zombies in The Last of Us.
Although Wario only exists in the Mario movieverse in Jack Black’s mind, another iconic character could steal the focus of the sequel; the post-credits scene shows a green and white speckled egg, indicating that Yoshi will be a major part of the sequel. Whatever characters make their way to the Mushroom Kingdom on the big screen, a sequel seems inevitable, since the movie broke box office records on its opening weekend.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently playing in theaters.
