It Looks Like ‘Ahsoka’ Will Follow In The Footsteps Of ‘Andor’ With A Surprising Genre Choice

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni talked about the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.
During the interview, the two talked about how every series has been within a different genre. How Andor is a thriller full of intrigue, how The Mandalorian is an adventure. How Ahsoka will be a samurai adventure. That casual drop shouldn’t be too surprising, even if unexpected. As is touched on in the interview.

Filoni mentions Ahsoka’s appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian and the inspiration behind it. While The Mandalorian might primarily have its roots in westerns, Filoni wanted to go a different direction for Ahsoka’s debut in live-action. So, drawing inspiration from Yojimbo, a Japanese samurai film from 1961, Filoni crafted an episode that felt tonally unique from the usual Mando adventures.
Such a tone will carry over to the Ahsoka series, where Tano will be joined by Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Chopper as she hunts down Grand Admiral Thrawn. Very little about the story is known, but the genre influence is likely to bring plenty of lightsaber action to proceedings. Considering what is known from Rebels, themes of loyalty could also be found here if Ezra Bridger’s extended stay within the Unknown Regions has affected him in any way.
It is still being determined when Ahsoka will be released within 2023, only that season 2 of The Bad Batch and season 3 of The Mandalorian will be the first shows of the new year.
