Hugh Jackman thought he was leaving the role of Wolverine behind after 2017’s Logan, but the actor recently teamed up with Ryan Reynolds for this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman shared a behind-the-scenes photo of him and Reynolds preparing to film an announcement video. He wrote, “This photo was taken September 4, 2022. There were maybe 7 or 8 people in the world who knew [Ryan Reynolds] and I were about to shoot a little something to announce that [Deadpool & Wolverine] were joining the MCU.”

The post continued, “Becoming Wolverine Again was born. It’s one of the most important moments of my life. I think at the very moment Ryan asked me if I was sure. I was! I am! So we shot this with [Shawn Levy] and [Maximum Effort] and held our collective breath that it didn’t leak. To all of our surprise, it didn’t.”

Jackman took some time to reflect on this twenty-year friendship with Reynolds. He recalled wishing he had seen the first Deadpool film before deciding to hang up his claws. Although Jackman has been offered a role in the film, he declined and came to view it as a missed opportunity, imagining how fun their characters could be on screen together. Jackman said, “I remember the exact date, August 14, 2022. I was driving and felt it was time, that I wanted to play Wolverine again, and I wanted to do it with Ryan. This was our moment. I called Ryan and said, ‘Ryan, let’s do it.’”

In a separate post on X, Reynolds cheekily showed Jackman’s transformation into Wolverine by posing next to a classroom skeleton in the before photo and showing a shirtless picture of the 55-year-old Jackman with abs in the after photo. The duo can be seen in Deadpool & Wolverine, now playing in theaters.
