Hugh Jackman Explains The Toll Wolverine's Growl Took On The Actor’s Voice
Hugh Jackman is donning his adamantium claws at least once more for the third installment of Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool films. However, the role has its costs. The actor recently explained to BBC Radio 4 that portraying Wolverine has affected his vocal abilities:
“My voice teacher in drama school would've been horrified with some of the things I did, because we learn a technique of how to shout and how to yell without ruining your voice. I’ve done some damage to my voice [in] playing Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I put that down directly to some of the growling and yelling I did.”
His comments follow rumors of the actor using steroids to bulk up for Wolverine. Jackman addressed the topic on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace:
“...I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’ So no, I just did it the old-school way….“I’ve eaten more chickens - I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world…I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train. That’s going to be my job for six months.”
