'Hit-Monkey' Renewed At Hulu Without Marvel Branding For Season 2
Hulu has renewed the animated series Hit-Monkey for a second season. It is the last of a quartet of series, intended to culminate in a team-up special, that was greenlit by the streamer from Marvel Television. Indeed, the series is based on a Marvel character by the same name. He debuted in a digital #1 by the character’s name in April 2010, but this season, the character’s comics ties are going to be less obvious.
Marvel Television folded into Marvel Studios in October 2019, eight months after the series was announced along with Howard the Duck, Tigra and Dazzler, and MODOK. The former two were canceled three months later, leaving only it and MODOK alive. Marvel Studios oversaw both remaining series’ season 1s, with MODOK premiering in May 2021 and being canceled a year later. However, Hit-Monkey season 2 is done at 20th Television Animation; thus, the show will be shedding Marvel from its title. However, the logo will still be present in other ways, presumably just deeper in the credits. Even so, it’s still very surprising. With Marvel Animation now also under Marvel Studios, it’s not like people need to be constantly reminded that not everything Marvel Studios makes is MCU, and not everything the studio makes is going to be kid-aimed.
