Henry Cavill Confirms In Instagram Post That He Will Not Be Returning As Superman
Henry Cavill announced on his Instagram page today that he is not returning as Superman:
“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.”
Cavill went on to express his gratitude to fans who championed his return as the last son of Krypton.

James Gunn also took to Twitter to comment on a lineup of films that will be announced at the beginning of 2023. Gunn tweeted specifically about Superman and that he is writing a script for a future Superman film:
“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life. so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
In response to rumors on the internet of Gunn and Cavill not getting along, Gunn replied:
“...we had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

Fans are particularly mournful of Cavill’s loss of Kal-El, especially after Cavill suddenly exited Netflix’s The Witcher. The reasoning for his exit from the popular show has not been as forthcoming as his announcement today.
Gunn and Safran’s line-up of DC films is yet to be announced.
