'Halloween' Actor Charles Cyphers Passes At 85

Charles Cyphers known as Sheriff Leigh Brackett from the Halloween franchise passed away this week at age 85 after a short illness.
Cyphers was a staple of John Carpenter’s films, appearing in Assault on District 13 and Escape from New York. But the Haddonfield law enforcer managed to make it through two Halloween movies (Halloween, Halloween II) before Michael Myers finally got to him in the third and most recent, Halloween Kills.

Despite being known for his contributions to the horror genre, Charles Cyphers also had impeccable comedic timing. He starred in the sit-com Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher as the dry jaded Mr. Al Yaroker. Even more notably, Cypher played Charlie Donovan in hit Hollywood baseball movie Major League.
Over the years Cypher worked steadily, cameoing in every popular TV show on the air, from Buffy The Vampire Slayer to Seinfeld. He built up a reputation as a hard worker and a consistent performer, as shown by the many tributes to his passing.
Nancy Keys, who played his onscreen daughter in Halloween said “My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed.”
His manager, Chris Roe announced the news saying: “Charles was a lovable and sensitive man He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”
