'Good Omens' Has Been Renewed For A Final Season

The news many have been waiting for regarding Amazon Prime’s Good Omens has finally arrived. Not too long after Neil Gaiman teased some coming news on Instagram, the official Good Omens account posted the renewal confirmation! The caption read, “We are ineffably elated to confirm that Good Omens will return for a third season! This calls for a round of hot chocolate and sweet treats!” The third season will be the final one. Gaiman confirmed on his Tumblr that “the story finishes at the end of Season 3.”
In a statement alongside the official announcement, Gaiman said (via Variety), “I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006.” He continued, “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end.” Gaiman broached the third season’s plot as well, explaining, “Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

Good Omens is based on Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett’s novel from 1990, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Season one was based closely on the book, establishing Aziraphale and Crowley’s complex relationship and their shared appreciation for Earth as they race to stop Armageddon and the Antichrist from fully rising to his expected role. Season two developed the new side Aziraphale and Crowley found themselves on, as they tried to solve the mystery of the amnesiac archangel Gabriel. It culminated in an intense, heartbreaking way that left many wanting more for the resolution.
More news regarding a release date and plot specificities will come with time. For now, things are being kept tightly under wraps as there is still a fair bit to do on the development side before filming begins. In the meantime, the first two seasons of Good Omens are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. A graphic novel adaptation of Good Omens is on the way as well, so keep an eye out at your local bookstores!
