The Actor For Aegon Targaryen In HBO's 'House Of The Dragon' Has An Interesting Connection To 'Doctor Who'
House of the Dragon is escalating time in place successfully by aging characters quickly to continue propelling the plot points of the story that HBO is telling, and fans cannot get enough of it. The most recent casting decision concerns the young heir to King Viserys Targaryen’s throne, his son – Aegon II Targaryen. We saw the child as a toddler in previous episodes. Photos have surfaced for Sunday’s episode 6 release which is expected to delight not only House of the Dragon fans but also fans of the long-running sci-fi hit Doctor Who.
Ty Tennant who is 20 years old is cast to play the role of the teenage Aegon. Ty is a third-generation actor whose grandfather – Peter Davison played the fifth doctor in the Doctor Who series while his father David Tennant played the 10th doctor in the series. An additional fun fact is that his mother, Georgia Moffett held a recurrent role in Doctor Who as well. That is how David and Georgia met. Ty is Georgia’s son from a previous marriage. After they were married David chose to adopt him.
David is exceptionally supportive of Ty’s budding career. The role of Aegon is the largest one that Ty has earned to date; however, he is no stranger to the sci-fi/fantasy genre. He has appeared in the film Tolkien as well as Casualty, Doom Patrol, Around the World in 80 Days, and War of the Worlds.
Aegon will play a large part in the story arc. Conflict for this character is sure to arise as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is expecting to take her father’s place as heir to his throne, however many of the king’s subjects believe that Aegon should ascend the throne as the first-born male heir. How long fans will get to enjoy Tennant in this role remains to be seen as an additional time jump is expected at some point where actor Tom Glynn-Carney will become the grown adult Aegon.
