The stage is beginning to be set for a high-profile lawsuit. Recently a group of prominent authors has joined in a class action lawsuit that alleges that OpenAI uses products like ChatGPT to infringe on their copyrighted works. The lawsuit features plaintiffs such as George R.R. Martin and Jodi Picoult.
In response, a spokesperson for Open AI said “Creative professionals around the world use ChatGPT as part of their creative process. We respect the rights of writers and authors, and believe they should benefit from AI technology.” The spokesperson also indicated that they had been having what they described as productive conversations with many creators including the Authors Guild.
