Freddie Prinze Jr. Revealed What Almost Made Him Walk Away From ‘Star Wars: Rebels’
Freddie Prinze Jr., the voice of Kanan Jarrus on Star Wars: Rebels, says he almost quit the show over money.
It wasn’t just his money either:
“In the world of animation, these animation actors, the voice actors, as people call them – again, they’re just actors, they’re just not doing live-action stuff – the paychecks are whack. When I did Star Wars Rebels, they weren’t paying any of us a dime. When I said, ‘I’m gonna walk unless you give not only me but the rest of the cast a raise’ – and I made sure we all got paid the same – that was the biggest, like, I can’t say that’s the biggest check any of them ever got on a show, but it was the biggest check that Disney ever paid voice actors per episode.”
He also revealed that his character almost died at the end of season 2. He had discussed it with Dave Filoni, the producer of Rebels, but the studio stepped in and said that Kanan was too important to the show to kill off. Prinze Jr. stayed on the show for all four seasons.
Freddie Prinze Jr. can now be seen on the reboot of Punky Brewster streaming on Peacock.
