'Five Nights At Freddy's' Breaking Records: Horror Adaptation Sets Biggest Peacock Launch
Halloween may be over, but that doesn’t mean the horror genre is dead. Five Nights At Freddy’s, a movie based on the popular point-and-click survival game from almost a decade ago is setting records. So far, it has set a record for the best five-day debut of any film on Peacock, and although numbers haven’t been released, it is confirmed to have passed Halloween Ends and fellow video game film: The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The movie grossed $132.7 million globally in its first week, making it the most successful movie adaption of a horror video game of all time. Its $80 million domestic tied it with Black Widow for the largest opening week for a movie released on a streaming service and in theatres simultaneously.
Scott Cawthon, the original creator of the game, co-wrote and created the movie. He used the same setting where the game took place: in an abandoned restaurant. Josh Hutcherson plays Mike, a security guard who takes an overnight job at the restaurant, and with the assistance of a police officer played by Elizabeth Lail.
