Ewan McGregor Says They're Looking At A Second Season Of 'Kenobi'

Ewan McGregor has never been shy about expressing his interest in returning to the role of Ob-Wan Kenobi after the completion of the Prequel Trilogy. In 2019, McGregor and Kathleen Kennedy officially announced that a Kenobi series was in development, ending years of rumors and speculation.

The six episodes of the show, which aired in May and June of 2022, were marketed as a limited series, not as season one of an ongoing show.

A fact that didn't keep McGregor from voicing his willingness to put on the Jedi robes once more as he thinks that there are more stories to tell from the point where Kenobi was reunited with the Force Ghost of his former Master, Qui-Gon Jinn at the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi to the moment when Alec Guinness' impersonation of Kenobi appeared in A New Hope.

At a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con on October 6, the Scottish actor revealed that they were "exploring" ideas for further stories of the Jedi Master on Tattooine, with "they" presumably meaning Lucasfilm and himself.

Another aspect that McGregor brought up was that he liked to wear Kenobis armor from the Clone Wars, as that would be a possibility to reunite him with Hayden Christensen, who reprised his role of Anakin Skywalker in the Kenobi series, both in flashbacks and of course in his lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan as Darth Vader.

McGregor even said he wouldn't mind if they had to digitally de-age him to make him look more like the Obi-Wan of the early 2000s.

Except for a very few in the audience who didn't seem to be fond of season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor's statements were met with big applause and cheers from the audience.

Lucsfilm's roster of Disney+ shows is notably getting thin after Skeleton Crew, which premieres on December 3, and season 2 of Andor, which will air sometime next year. Season 2 of Ahosoke will presumably start shooting next summer, but neither Lucasfilm nor Disney have shared any plans for further TV shows yet, so a season two of Kenobi would be a welcome addition.

But who knows, with Bob Iger's shift towards more cinematic films both for Marvel and Lucasfilm, Ewan McGregor might find himself returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a kind of "A Star Wars Story" feature film, as it was originally intended before the project turned into a TV show.
