Everything You Need to Know About 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania'

As the newest MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premiere date quickly approaches, some things still have to be clarified. Who is in it? What will most likely happen during the movie? And most importantly, when will I be able to watch it? These are all extremely relevant questions with just a month left until the movie is in cinemas across the world. Let’s dig into what we know.

This movie follows the latest appearance of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Ant-Man and the Wasp, in which he, Hope, and Hank were able to pull Janet Van Dyne, the first Wasp, out of the Quantum Realm. Cassie, Scott’s daughter, has become a young adult, and she is gaining a new role in the family. The trailer shows the public that Cassie was able to access the Quantum Realm using a device, but that she was not aware of the dangers that waited for her on the other side. Janet, on the other hand, was fully aware of such things, having spent 29 years there.

Another important element of the story is that Scott is trying to compensate for the time he spent “blipped” after Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Scott meets Kang in the Quantum Realm, and he promises something of the utmost importance to Scott: time. Kang even says: “I’m the man who can give you the one thing you want.” This will not come as a free gesture; Kang will probably want to get out of the realm as part of this trade. From what the trailer shows the public, something will happen between the two of them, with Kang unleashing his full anger and powers at the Pym/Lang family. IMDB reports:

“Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.”

From what the trailer has shown, plus the description on the movie’s IMDB page, it looks like Scott will have to make some incredibly tough decisions that will certainly affect the rest of the MCU. Considering this is the first movie of Phase 5 as it was announced last year, the outcome will surely be of great importance.

The cast from previous Ant-Man films continues, with some powerful additions to the universe. Paul Rudd remains as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, accompanied by his Marvel counterpart Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope Van Dyne/Wasp. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer also return to the now-trilogy as Dr. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Kathryn Newton, known for her role as Lucy Stevens in Pokemón: Detective Pikachu (2019) will take the mantle of Cassie Lang.

Jonathan Majors, who first played He Who Remains in the Loki series, will now play Kang The Conqueror. Another known character from the comics will also make his MCU debut in this film: MODOK appeared during the second trailer in his full, weird-shaped, dangerous-looking form, and some theories have already started circulating the internet. Corey Stroll, the actor that played Darren Cross/Yellow Jacket, is rumored to be the face of MODOK. One theory from CBR is that after being shrunk to an incredibly small size at the end of Ant-Man (2015), Cross went to the Quantum Realm, where he was able to maintain a certain size with the help of his new special chair. This chair, CBR says, is both a “transportation tool and a dangerous weapon.”

Bill Murray is also shown in the trailer, and IMDB lists him as Lord Krylar. Krylar is a being from the Microverse, but the MCU has, according to Screen Rant, mixed the Microverse with Limbo, resulting in what we know now as the Quantum Realm. Murray’s character and his connections could also open doors for other heroes and villains to appear in the MCU. Katy O’Brian (Westworld, Black Lightning, The Mandalorian) plays Jentorra, who, per ComicBook, is the niece of Jarella, the regent of the subatomic kingdom of K’ai. Jentorra will probably be part of the Microverse freedom fighters, a relevant part of the story.

Release Date

According to IMDB, the movie is set to premiere on February 17th, 2023. With just over a month to go, the trailer released on Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel will likely be the last the public sees before the launch.
