Everything We Know About The New ‘Futurama’ Revival
The Simpsons had never done this!
Twenty years ago, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen wrote their witty and cynical views of what to expect in the year 3000 in what they called Futurama. The story of a pizza delivery guy named Fry, who got to live until the year 3000 after being cryogenically frozen. Leela and Bender, a mutant cyclops and a Mexican robot, join him aboard the Planet Express delivery company ship in episodic space adventures, time travels, snu-snu treats, and accurate scientific plots.

Ironically, although the show had critical acclaim between fans, critics, and the scientific community, the show was canceled. The first time after four seasons was in 2003. Later, Comedy Central extended the show’s life with four films, divided into 16 episodes. And again, thanks to the loving fans, the show came back for two more seasons with a bit of help from good old capitalism. The final episode, “Meanwhile,” a love letter to the scientific and loving fans, was aired in September 2013.
As you, the reader may well know, fans and writers are famous for their ability to accept the end of television shows and films. So naturally, in February 2022, the producers announced the return of the comedic/sci-fi series for a third season. Although, at the time of the announcement, not all of the original cast was confirmed, the presence of John DiMaggio, Bender’s voice actor and the most iconic character in the series, was not attached. A few weeks later, the whole original cast was confirmed. The Planet Express crew was complete. In a recent interview, Katey Sagal, Leela’s voice actor, revealed that a few episodes were already recorded.
The new run will have 20 episodes and is expected to air in 2023. The show had already ended three times, and the final episode gave us a lot of laughs, science, and good love each time. So now, just like Fry’s dog, Seymour, we only must wait.
