EA Games GM Talks About The Sims And The Future
The Sims is one of the best-selling video game franchises in history. It’s gone through four iterations, and The Sims 4 keeps going strong, with new packs coming all the time. My The Sims library is nothing compared to what others have. There are so many packs out there to flesh out the game that already has so much to offer in terms of customization and creativity.
According to The Sims general manager, Kate Gorman, that seems to be the focus going forward. Games Industry recently sat down to talk with Gorman about the future of The Sims. One of the main topics of conversation was about pop culture and keeping The Sims relevant.
"[The Sims] is really an entertainment platform that we're building," Gorman told Games Industry. "And our creators are part of that process. Being able to create and extend and augment new spaces, it does allow us to move at the speed of pop culture. It means you can create something in The Sims that you've seen in 15 minutes or less….You'll see a lot of that coming forward.”

Gorman talked at length about how they are using content creators in The Sims space to help playtest new ideas they have going forward, and making them part of the process through something called the Creator Program. She mentioned that the things popular The Sims streamers have made so far are going to be bundled together in packs similar to what EA has been putting out for years. They’re also going to get early access to new things they want to try with The Sims, like the mysterious Project Rene (that is confirmed not The Sims 5, but instead something to exist alongside The Sims 4), in something called The Sims Labs.
It’s an exciting future for The Sims, with expansions onto the Nintendo Switch, and even the announcement of a The Sims movie. Gorman was really excited about the prospects of what The Sims can be, and where it can go.
