Here's What You Won't Want To Miss During Disney's D23 Expo Livestream
If you’re not going to the D23 Expo this year, that’s fine! D23 has announced that the Expo, held from September 9-11, will have an official livestream covering The Ultimate Disney Fan Event as it had before for people worldwide. It’ll be available on D23Expo.com/live, D23.com, and social platforms YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Twitch. While neither Studio Showcase (Disney/Pixar and Marvel/Lucasfilm/20th, respectively) is on the docket, there’s still content across Disney’s subsidiaries, including National Geographic. It’ll be hosted by Ashley Eckstein (the voice of Ahsoka Tano), Mark Daniel, Bret Iwan (the primary voice of Mickey Mouse), Juju Green, Ryan March, and Alyssa Navarro.
It starts appropriately on Friday at 10:30 AM PT with the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony. This means fans will see Black-ish’s Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, the cast of Frozen minus Santino Fontana, and the late Chadwick Boseman all be honored as Disney Legends. At 1 PM is the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. It’s everything you’d expect from the Studio Showcases, but about video games instead of movies (or TV)!

Each of the five studios will have game announcements, trailers, and reveals. At 2:30 PM, the Disney For Scores podcast will have live interviews with Marvel series and film composers. At 4 PM, it’s Disney Legends in Conversation, where the newest inductees will chat about their careers. At 6 PM, it’s the day’s final event: The Ultimate Disney Costume Contest, the D23 Expo Mousequerade 2022. It’s hosted by Nina West, with judges Eckstein, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Ally Maki. Cosplay creativity will likely run wild.
Saturday begins with Talkin’ Pets with the Vets of National Geographic at 10:30 AM, featuring the Pols of The Incredible Dr. Pol, Dr. Vernard Hodges of Critter Fixers: Country Vets; Dr. Geoff Pye, Dr. Jen Flower, and animal keeper Rain Westgard of Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as well as Alfonso Ribeiro, who hosts an animal-focused America’s Funniest Home Videos spinoff for the network. They’re going to look behind the scenes of their series. At noon, we’ve got the Bob’s Burgers panel with the cast and crew, seeming to be a deserving victory lap for this summer’s movie while revving up for the new season premiering two weeks later.
At 2 PM, it’s Marvel Comics: Celebrating 60 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man. Which is pretty self-explanatory, a celebration of Spider-Man hosted by Executive Spider-Editor Nick Lowe and Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski. Finally, at 3:30 PM is probably the biggest panel or presentation of these livestreams, Disney’s Epic Entertainment Showcase: The Musical, The Extravaganza! It is poised to be precisely what one would look for from the movie studio showcases, but for television. Specifically, this is Disney Branded Television’s showcase, which encompasses Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney+. This is the thing to get most excited about that you will see for yourself. Whether you’re looking for what’s next from their animation or even the kidcoms, this is where it would be. It’s over two hours long and will be packed with show announcements.
At 6 PM, Nina West returns to host the D23 Disney Stars Trivia Showdown, with a mix of celebrities and general attendees playing Disney Games, including Disney Trivia, physical challenges, and more. It doesn’t last too long, however, as the night finishes with The Making of Disney100: The Exhibition at 6:30, about the exhibition scheduled to premiere at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in February 2023.
The first event to be streamed on Sunday, the final day of the Expo, is A Boundless Future: Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, exploring the future of the Disney Parks at 10:30 AM, followed by a celebration of the legacy of Imagineers with Walt Disney Imagineering: 70 Years of Making the Impossible, Possible at 1 PM, Explore the World with the Next Generation of National Geographic! which features the network’s younger hosts at 3:45 PM, and then Trivia Showdown at 5 PM. It is unclear if this is a rerun of the previous day’s edition or one final farewell game, as it is the last event on the livestream schedule. While one could lament the panels they didn’t choose, it’s a good mix of Disney’s portfolio and each stage in the venue, and it feels worth tuning into.
