Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington sat down for a cast-on-cast interview on Disney+ to generate interest in the upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water film. Sam plays Jake Sully, while Zoe portrays Neytiri.

Sam highlighted the number of underwater scenes in the new film, while Zoe commented on her character’s newfound parenthood. The actress compared parenthood to a duck swimming in a pond. From the surface, everything looks calm, but just underneath the water, the duck’s flippers are paddling frantically.

When asked about his character’s development, Sam stated that Jake is still reckless but found something to fight for in Zoe’s character Neytiri and their family. The pair talked about bringing new actors into the world of Avatar, while Zoe mentioned Cliff Curtis’ ability to connect his Maori culture with the oceanic Na’vi tribe of Metakayina.

Another question asked about the impact of the film’s legacy on the actors. Zoe claimed it helped her grow and taught her, while Sam quipped that going through customs is less of a hassle. The actors had less to say about pre-filming rituals, with Zoe joking about Sam’s past habits of farting and watching Law & Order.

Finally, the pair shared what it was like to see the finished film for the first time. Sam strongly reacted to it, while Zoe was very pleased with how it turned out. Avatar: The Way of Water is in theaters now. Three sequels are planned for 2024, 2026, and 2028, giving Avatar fans a reason to return to the world of Pandora.
