Disney Rakes In Over $3 Billion In 2024 As 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Hits $824 Million
It just keeps on making money, and there appears to be no end in sight. After only two weeks of release, Deadpool & Wolverine has hit $824 million globally, becoming the second highest-grossing movie of the year and pushing Disney past $3 billion in profits. It also makes Deadpool & Wolverine the third highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, after Joker and Oppenheimer, and surpasses the gross of both of its predecessors. The film is expected to cross the $1 billion mark in a matter of days, cementing its success for Marvel Studios and Disney.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the final in a series of movies released by 20th Century Fox, based on Marvel characters. The first film, X-Men, was a blockbuster that established Hugh Jackson as an action star and led to several more movies. However, Fox’s later films received less success over the years, with the underperformance of Fan4stic, in particular, seen as a factor in their 2019 merger with Disney. With Marvel firmly under Disney’s control, new X-Men and Fantastic Four movies are under development, but Deadpool & Wolverine serves as a coda to this era of superhero movies. A new era is approaching us, and it looks like Disney is leading the way.
