Disney 'Lorcana' Reprints Are Meant To Address Scarcity

Disney’s popular Lorcana Trading Card Game (TCG), which was recently released on August 18th of this year, will be seeing some adjustments to its reprinting timeline. This is being done by Ravensburger, the trading card game’s publisher, to eliminate high prices, sometimes twice the suggested retail price of $29.99, as well as address scarcity issues to ensure that as many consumers as possible can get their hands on the game.

Some of the pricing issues are due not only to scarcity but also playability coupled with that scarcity. Some cards common in playsets that are heavily sought after by players and collectors include Rapunzel: Gifted with Healing, which is currently valued at over $50. According to Senior Brand Manager and Disney Lorcana TCG designer Ryan Miller:

“We cannot discuss quantities, but our goal has always been to get as much product into the hands of fans as possible, and we are continuing to work with our suppliers to increase production to better meet demand as quickly as possible. I can confirm that the reprint will include both starter decks and booster packs.”

In keeping with their earlier approach, Ravensburger also indicated that their main priority right now is getting products to fans and players over collectors and resellers.

“While we can’t discuss the allocation split, supporting Independent Hobby retailers with Disney Lorcana TCG continues to be our #1 priority,” Miller said.

Despite the general prioritization of fans and players with the reprints, Ravensburger is also targeting collectors with more limited items such as the Disney 100 Edition signed by Disney animators. Ravensburger states that there will be no indicators to distinguish the reprinted cards from the original ones.

Ravensburger has struggled with supply and cost issues regarding Lorcana shortly after its release, when it posted on X on August 31 promising greater availability and pricing at the suggested retail price:

Ravensburger also posted about its anticipated release schedule, indicating that additional booster products would be made available in North America in October 2023, as well as reprints of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter in North America and Europe in January 2024:
