Disney Is Reportedly Developing A Movie Based On Theme Park Ride Big Thunder Mountain
Disney is officially looking to continue its next theme park ride adaptation run. Following 2021’s Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion this upcoming March, the next chosen target is apparently Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and they have directors in negotiations. The film adaptation is currently in development.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or simply Big Thunder Mountain in both colloquial and official terms, is a mine train roller coaster that originated at Disneyland in 1979 before expanding to Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Park. The directing team of Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood, known as Bert & Bertie, are in negotiations to direct the film, produced by companies LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free. The script is written by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

It’s too early for plot details, but whatever it is, Disney was very excited by Bert & Bertie’s pitch and vision for what the film could be. Disney viewed the duo very favorably after they directed three of Hawkeye’s six episodes. The duo has also directed episodes of Our Flag Means Death, Kidding, and The Great.
Not only does this follow Jungle Cruise and a Haunted Mansion reboot, but Disney is also still searching for a way to bring the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise forward again, having been the one success of such attempts in the early 2000s that included The Country Bears and the original Eddie Murphy-fronted The Haunted Mansion.
