Jon Favreau And Dave Filoni Call George Lucas The Ultimate Cameo In A New Interview

Could the return of film and sci-fi icon George Lucas come in a much more subtle and unpronounced way? In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, who currently spearhead the live action projects at Lucasfilm, spoke about their ultimate cameos in the beloved franchise. Favreau had this to say when asked about it:

“George Lucas, that would be the best cameo.”

Favreau went on to explain how Lucas has been on the set while Dave Filoni has been directing, and that he’s seen the two work together, expressing his respect and love for Lucas.

Lucas has had a cameo in Star Wars before, in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, as a blue-skinned alien that goes by the name of Notluwiski Papanoida. His appearance is extremely brief and barely noticeable, but it takes place when Anakin Skywalker walks through the doors to meet Chancellor Palpatine at the Galaxies Opera House. It was a quick one-second shot that even a careful eye could miss, but it was Lucas’s first appearance as a character in the Star Wars franchise.

Would he ever cameo again? While the answer remains to be seen, there is definitely room for it, especially since he has occasionally visited sets during filming. Of course both Filoni and Favreau would love to get him into costume for a brief appearance in one of their upcoming projects, and the fans would rejoice if it came to fruition. While the idea itself does seem magical, the possibility seems unlikely.

Despite numerous old and false rumors of his return, there’s no guarantee Lucas will be returning to Star Wars in any capacity. Although a brief cameo would be a fun Easter egg, in all six of his own movies, he only made one “blink and you’ll miss it” appearance that even now is barely noticeable. Even Filoni seems unconvinced it will ever happen, judging by his response in the interview.
