'Digimon Adventure 02' Movie Adaptation Confirms Title And Two New Cast Members
The movie adaptation of the anime Digimon Adventure 02 now has a title: Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning. This was confirmed at “Digi Fes 2022” held at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, Japan on July 30th. Those in attendance were treated to a sneak peek at the beginning of the film. The event also revealed information about the new and returning cast members.
Set in 2012, a little after the anime Digimon tri. And Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, the film follows lead Daisuke Motomiya (Davis Motomiya in English adaptations) and the others as adults. This is similar to the approach taken by the Digimon tri. Series. The film also introduces Rui Ōwada (played by Megumi Ogata, famous for Shinji Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion and Yugi Mutoh in Yu-Gi-Oh), a mysterious youth who was saved by Motomiya when he fell from the Tokyo Tower and claimed to be the first person to partner with a Digimon. Ogata had commented that she loves “the images created by Director Taguchi” for the new character. Rie Kugimiya also joins the cast as Ukkomon, a Digimon that resembles a slippery marine creature and appears to play a major role in the film.

Returning cast members include Fukujurō Katayama as Daisuke Motomiya, Junko Noda as V-Mon, Arthur Lounsbery as Ken Ichijōji, Naozumi Takahashi as Wormmon, Ayaka Asai as Miyako Inoue, Kouichi Toochika as Hawkmon, Yoshitaka Yamaya as Iori Hida, Megumi Urawa as Armadimon, Junya Enoki as Takeru Takaishi, Miwa Matsumoto as Patamon, M.A.O as Hikari Yagami, and Yuka Tokumitsu as Tailmon.
Once again, Studio Yumeta Company will be working on the animation with Toei Ai Animation producing the film. It is set to be directed by Tomohisa Taguchi and written by Akatsuki Yamatoya, both of whom had worked on the film’s prequel Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.
