Dick Van Dyke Turns 99 And Features In Coldplay Video
Coldplay have a new music video released, with Dick Van Dyke having a starring role within it. As Van Dyke is soon to celebrate his 99th birthday on December 13, this music video has allowed him to reflect on his life. Set to the ballad "All My Love", the seven-minute video offers a touching and intimate portrait of his career.
Providing a tour of Van Dyke’s beachside Malibu house, showing off some memorabilia from the movies he’s starred in, and even recreating some moments from them too, the video also features many of Van Dyke’s family. There’s emotion visible when he talks of his family, especially his four children. When looking at a photo of one of his kids being read a bedtime story, he says, “I’ve had dreams where I’m depressed or lonely or hurt, and she comes to comfort me. She actually comes to comfort me.”
When reflecting on his advanced age, Van Dyke says, “I’m acutely aware that I could go any day now, but I don’t know why it doesn’t concern me. I’m not afraid of it. I have the feeling that I’m gonna be alright.” By the end of the video, all his family appear, joining in with the final chorus of the song alongside Coldplay co-founder Chris Martin. As revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Martin said the two were neighbours in California and had been friends for many years.
