Young Justice line up

Another one bites the dust. With their latest move amidst a flurry of cost-saving efforts, Warner and DC Comics have announced that the hit animated series Young Justice will not renew for a fifth season. While this news will undoubtedly upset many fans of the show, it should not come as a shock given the fact that the list of projects, both ongoing and upcoming, to get the axe has only been growing longer ever since the cancellation of DC’s Batgirl. Young Justice is not the first “next generation” centric superhero show to have its end announced, as it has been reported that the popular series Titans has seen its final days as well.

Oddly enough this is not even the first time the show has been cancelled. Following a cast of sidekicks eager to prove themselves ready for the big leagues, Young Justice originally debuted on Cartoon Network in 2010 and enjoyed a run of two seasons that spanned into 2012 before coming to an early end. After a resurgence of popularity, the show made a highly anticipated return in 2019 for a third season on the DC streaming platform, DC Universe. The show's eventual fourth, and now reportedly final season went on to have its premiere last year in October of 2021 on HBO Max.

The series finale for the show aired on June 9th, 2022, and although fans can hold out hope that if it returned once it can do it again, DC’s bluntness about going back to the drawing board and moving in a new direction may mean Young Justice has run out of second chances.
