Netflix Releases the Official Teaser For 'Wednesday'
Here’s the thing. Netflix has a new The Addams Family series coming this fall, produced and directed by acclaimed director Tim Burton and run by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, best known as the creators of Smallville. Two months after unveiling the first look at Jenna Ortega as the daughter of the creepy and kooky family, the streaming service released the first teaser trailer for Wednesday on August 17th, on the only day of the week they see fit to market the show. See, because it was a Wednesday. How clever.
The trailer opens on Nancy Reagan High School, which very much is a commentary on how schools can be named after those with good PR covering horrific attitudes and actions. In revenge for bullying, or as she puts it, torturing Pugsley, Wednesday unleashes piranhas on the swim team. She specifically targeted Dalton. Her expulsion for the act sends her to Nevermore Academy, her eighth school in five years, and the alma mater of her parents, Morticia and Gomez, played here by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán. Of course, the first person to approach her is cheery as all hell, juxtaposed with the dark and deadpan Wednesday.
From there, it’s a lot of shots of intrigue and pizzazz and effects, not really telling much about the plot itself. A previously provided synopsis tells of mastering the psychic powers she apparently has, a murder spree to foil within the town, and solving a supernatural mystery involving her parents, while still immersing herself with the people at Nevermore Academy.
Wednesday premieres this fall on Netflix, though a specific October premiere likely can be surmised by the material.
