DC Will Continue The Hunt For New Head Of TV & Film After Dan Lin Is Out Of Contention
So much for that. Producer Dan Lin will not be the next head of DC’s film and TV unit, a jurisdiction apparently created in the reorganization following the formation of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. Negotiations have officially ended.
It was a position described with all the weight of being a figure equivalent to Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. Lin was the favorite touted in early August, but now Warner Bros. will have to look elsewhere. So what happened? It’s pretty simple actually. No heated walkout, it’s just business being business. Lin has his own production company, Rideback, which he founded after his previous stint at Warner Bros. as senior vice president of production. Through this company, Lin maintained a relationship with the studio, having a part in producing their Sherlock Holmes and Lego movies to name a few. It currently has a first-look deal with Universal. If Lin were to become head of DC Films, Rideback would have to be folded into Warner Bros., and it would break the deal in some fashion where it just would not work. And Lin is still very much wanting to keep Rideback independent, and thus such created a roadblock that couldn’t be overcome.
As DC Films moves on, it remains headed by Mike DeLuca, because he’s running the broader Warner Bros. Pictures with Pam Abdy. Whoever gets the gig will have a lot on their plate.
