With Warner Bros. Discovery taking new directions for their DC films division, there has been speculation that Shazam: Fury of the Gods would be caught in the crossfire. Since its delay, fans have theorized that the movie may be undergoing some reshoots to better fit with the company’s new vision. Recently, the film’s director, David F. Sandberg took to social media to squash those claims.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom both had their release dates pushed back to allow the Aquaman sequel some more time to finish up the visual effects following some reshoots. When asked in an Instagram Q&A whether or not Shazam’s latest outing would also be getting reshoots, Sandberg responded with:

“No. I’ve seen the reports that Shazam is being ‘retooled’ but it’s not true. The cut has been locked for some time now and we’re doing the final mix, color, and vfx right now. Everyone is happy with the film and we’re not going to work longer on it just because of the release date shift. They figured Aquaman’s previous date was better for us and that’s the reason we moved. Definitely not shooting more.”

Whatever Sandberg has planned for fans, it sounds like he’s very pleased with it. Be sure to catch Shazam: Fury of the Gods when it releases in theaters on March 17, 2023.
