Brendan Fraser Tears Up At The Standing Ovation To His New Film 'The Whale'
Anticipation mounts as reviews for Darren Aronofsky’s latest drama, The Whale, starring Brendan Fraser, flood the internet after Sunday night’s debut at the Venice Film Festival. As the credits played, Fraser received a six-minute standing ovation from the audience. Fraser became emotional, tearing up and hugging Darren Aronofksy. At one point, the actor attempted to leave the theater. However, the applause was so loud he remained to take another bow. The film’s inaugural audience was a star-studded affair with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Nick Kroll in attendance.
The Whale stars Fraser as an obese man attempting to rekindle his relationship with his 17-year-old daughter, played by Sadie Sink of Stranger Things fame. The film, based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name, includes a supporting cast of Hong Chau, Samantha Morton, and Ty Simpkins.

Fraser wore a prosthetic suit that required six hours in the makeup chair daily to play the role. “I developed muscles I did not know I had,” Fraser remarked about wearing the suit. He went further to explain how he felt a sense of vertigo after the makeup team removed the ensemble.
Fraser’s future looks bright after garnering high praise for his performance in The Whale. His next film is Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
The Whale will release in theaters on December 9th, 2022.
