Dark Take On Pinnochio, 'Pinnochio Unstrung' Wraps Production
The Twisted Childhood Universe started by English director Rhys Frake-Waterfield has certainly made its stamp on the horror community as of late, for better or for worse. The flagship Blood and Honey series brought it to the forefront, and the success of the original film, plus the vastly superior sequel, showed a market for killer childhood icons. Frake-Waterfield has embraced this, is going full ahead on this, and is planning or making more films for his personal childhood character killer MCU-type library of films. The latest has just finished production.
Pinocchio Unstrung is not the first killer Pinocchio film; that "honor” belongs to 1996’s atrocious Pinocchio’s Revenge, but based on what Frake-Waterfield has planned, it should be an interesting one. The film will feature a fully practical doll designed by Emmy-winning artist Todd Masters. According to Frake-Waterfield, the film will, thankfully, rely heavily on practical effects instead of CGI. This can only mean good, especially for a low-budget horror film. The film has wrapped production and is expected to be released sometime in 2025, but first, we’ll get to see Frake-Waterfield’s take on Peter Pan, titled Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, set to come out January 13th, 2025.
As a slasher fan, I can’t wait.
