Daniel Radcliffe And Angelina Jolie Win First Tony Awards

The 77th Tony Awards came to pass, celebrating Broadway productions and the people who bring them to life, from actors to producers to composers and more. The ceremony was covered by CBS, PlutoTV, and Paramount+. During this ceremony, several firsts came about: Daniel Radcliffe won his first Tony for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, and Angelina Jolie won her first as the producer for The Outsiders.

Radcliffe won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Musical for his role as Charley Kringas in the musical Merrily We Roll Along. The run began in 2022 before shifting to Broadway in 2023. Radcliffe has frequently popped up in the stage acting scene for a large portion of his career, from West End roles to Broadway appearances alongside his screen acting roles. Tickets for Merrily We Roll Along are currently available for purchase through July 7, 2024.

The Outsiders first opened in 2023 before moving to Broadway in 2024. The musical won the award for Best Musical; as a producer for the musical, this marks Jolie’s first Tony win. This musical won three other awards honoring specific members of the production.  Jolie has had a varied career over the years with experience in acting, producing, and directing, with a touch of stage experience as well. Tickets for The Outsiders are available for purchase through the beginning of January 2025.

The Tony Awards focus on honoring Broadway productions and their achievements during specific seasons. The eligibility period for the 77th Tony Awards was from April 28, 2023, to April 25, 2024. This year it was hosted by Ariana DeBose, an actress on stage and screen who has hosted the award show since 2022. The broadcast can be rewatched through Paramount+ and CBS.
